Amy Parsley

Of Southern Horsemanship

I grew up riding horses with my cousins with the goal of simply having fun and not falling off…Hopefully. Horses weren’t a huge part of my life until I moved to Kentucky where my dad and I began taking riding lessons together and soon after I began Eventing. I am grateful for the foundation and lessons that Eventing has taught me. When college rolled around, I chose a university that allowed me to pursue a business degree along with equine studies. While there I was given the opportunity to start several horses under the instruction of Jesse Westfall. I was absolutely captivated by the process! One day during training class Westfall introduced me to the discipline of Liberty and over the next few semesters taught me the foundational pieces, both mental and physical, of creating Liberty horses. During those semesters I wasn’t sure where I was going in life but I just kept building and my love and curiosity for training grew deeper.

Since graduating I have started my own business, Southern Horsemanship LLC, in which I have been starting colts, training horses, teaching people how to understand and communicate more effectively with their horses, and providing lessons in Liberty work. I train and show my personal horses at liberty with the ILHA and in western dressage. I have continued my education of horses, liberty, and western dressage under Luke Gingerich, and I am grateful for the understanding I have gained through him. In 2022 I started the Kentucky ILHA Liberty Horse Club which hosts events to promote the discipline and be a local connection for those interested in Liberty. I am very passionate about being a lifelong learner and look forward to continuing to work towards my goals with horses and grow in all aspects of life as God directs me.
